It is also used as a corrosion inhibitor in old tanks, pipelines, antifreeze, and paints. In detinning, it acts as a depolarizer and oxidizing agent. Sodium Nitrite is used in phosphate coatings, gold playing baths, heat transfer salt, and more. It is a polymer inhibitor for synthetic rubber. In wastewater treatment, it is used for odor control and to slow down bacteria growth.

Posted by Gary on May 11th 2022

Austempering is a form of heat treating that, when applied to certain metals, allows for greater tensile strength, more consistent hardness, and lower distortion when compared with conventional treatments. Austempering calls for parts to be quenched in a molten salt bath (sodium nitrite, sodium nitrate, and potassium nitrate).
