Sodium Metabisulfite NF FCC is a food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic ingredient used mainly as a preservative, antioxidant, and a leavening agent. Bakery/Cracker manufacturers use it for wheat flour crackers to prolong their shelf-life. As a preservative, it is used to also extend the shelf life of meat products such as fresh sausages and burgers. While in cosmetic applications, it is considered safe in concentrations up to 5%.
