Beta Carotene is known as C.I. Food Orange 5. Beta Carotene is also a provitamin A meaning it can convert into vitamin A in the body. It is commonly used in bakery applications for color and it is water soluble. Its coloring properties can be used in several areas of baking including bread, biscuits and cookies, dry cake mixes, fillings, and decorations.

As an ingredient used in personal care products and cosmetics, Beta-Carotene is used in the formulation of aftershave lotions, bath products, cleansing products, makeup, hair conditioners, shampoos, skin care and suntan products. It is used for both its skin-tinting effects as well as an anti-aging and hair repair abilities.

As part of a dietary supplement, Beta-Carotene is said to be an antioxidant lowering the risk of developing cancer or heart disease. Studies have also shown that antioxidant supplements may help prevent the deterioration of cognition.

Natracol Beta Carotene 1% WSP is an orange-red powder. Beta Carotene suspended in oil is mixed and spray died on an edible base to form 1% Beta Carotene powder. pH levels of 1% water soluble powder are at 3.0-7.0.
