CalTAC Calcium Chloride Anhydrous (FCC) is manufactured and packaged by Avantor Performance Materials in bulk 110 pound fiber drums
Calcium chloride is used in food products as an additive as well as in food processing operations. Treating food products with food grade calcium chloride helps extend the shelf life of a wide variety of food products while maintaining desirable texture and flavor properties. Calcium Chloride is also used in salt processing to add a salty taste to pickles and other foods without increasing sodium content. Spraying fruit and vegetables with calcium chloride increases firmness and shelf life. Additional food processing applications include soft drinks to reduce alkalinity, vegetable canning as a firming agent, Brewing to adjust pH and adjust flavor, dairy products as a cheese coagulant as well as many other general food purposes.
As a personal care ingredient, Calcium Chloride is used in bath oils, cosmetics, conditioners and lotions which it adds viscosity.
Calcium Chloride is also used in road management, particularly during the winter as an ice melt with effectiveness as low as -61F. Additionally, it is used as dust control on unpaved roads due to its ability to absorb moisture from the air and hold it.
Specifications
CalTAC Calcium Chloride meets all Food Chemical Codex specifications, and is well within required limits of impurities. Particle size is between 6 mesh (10% retained) and 16 mesh (100% retained).
Characteristics
CalTAC Calcium Chloride is processed into small uniform particles that goes into solution faster and more completely, even in concentrations far higher than those of normal usage. Furthermore, CalTAC solutions—unlike other calcium chlorides do not produce appreciable quantities of colored sediment. Control of particle size to a narrow distribution virtually excludes fines, thereby reducing dusting problems in handling and mixing.
