Aspartame
Aspartame refers to the food additive which is a primary nonnutritive sweetener commonly used in beverages and baked goods. Aspartame is 200 time sweeter than table sugar (sucrose), which allows the end product to have much less caloric (calorie) contribution. Aspartame has been broadly used for over 30 years. Aspartame was first discovered in 1965 and received initial FDA and EU approval in 1981. Aspartame-sweetened soft drinks can play an advantageous role to help people manage or reduce their intake of calories.
