Bulk Deionized Water for Manufacturing, Processing, and Cleaning Applications

Deionized Water (also called DI Water) is processed and packaged by Tilley Chemical in a bulk 55-gallon drum. This high-purity water has almost all ionized minerals and salts removed through ion exchange, making it suitable for commercial processes where mineral content and dissolved ions can interfere with the finished product or production process.

During deionization, positively and negatively charged ions are exchanged with hydrogen and hydroxyl ions. The water is also treated with UV light as part of the purification process to reduce existing bacteria.

Common Applications

Deionized Water is commonly used for:

  • Ensure consistent flavors amongst food and beverage
  • Commercial manufacturing and processing
  • Industrial cleaning and rinsing
  • Equipment cleaning
  • Laboratory and research applications
  • Pharmaceutical cleaning

Frequently Asked Questions

What is deionized water?

Deionized water is high-purity water that has had almost all ionized minerals and salts removed through ion exchange. The process removes positively and negatively charged contaminants that can otherwise remain dissolved in untreated water.

How is this deionized water purified?

The water passes through an ion-exchange system that replaces dissolved positive and negative ions with hydrogen and hydroxyl ions. It is also treated with UV light as part of the purification process.

What minerals and ions are removed during deionization?

The ion-exchange process is used to remove dissolved ions including sodium, calcium, iron, copper, chloride, sulfate, and other charged contaminants from the water.

Is deionized water the same as distilled water?

No. Deionized water is purified primarily through ion exchange, which removes charged minerals and salts. Distillation uses evaporation and condensation as the primary purification method.
