Ammonium Sulfate is found in a lot of products and is primary used as a fertilizer to lower pH in alkaline soils to promote plant growth. It can also be used as a spray accessory for water-soluble fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides.

As a food additive, Ammonium Sulfate FCC is Food Chemical Codex Grade and is most commonly used as a dough conditioner, surfactant, or dough strengthener in flours and breads. It is considered "generally recognized as safe" (GRAS) by the FDA. In the European Union it is E number E517.
